Sedation OptionsMaking Dental Treatments More RelaxingDental work is often essential to your oral health and your body’s overall wellness, but some patients’ fear of dental treatment prevents them from getting the assistance they need. At Delaware Periodontics, Dr. Klassman provides a solution at our office to help our patients get past their dental anxiety. Not only does our friendly team strive to maintain a comfortable environment and inviting atmosphere at our office; we also offer conscious sedation dental treatments! What Are Conscious Sedation Treatments?Conscious sedation is exactly what it reads: a patient will receive a form of sedation during their dental treatment that will lessen their pain and cause relaxation, all while staying conscious. Using a variety of techniques, such as intravenous, tablet, or gas form, we help our patients relax before and during their dental procedures so they come away feeling more at ease with the notion of in-office oral care. Talk to Dr. Klassman about what exactly the procedure will entail including what treatment is best for your periodontal disease and what side effects to expect should you opt for conscious sedation. You may be required to stay at our office for at least an hour following the procedure and will likely need a family member or friend to drop you off and pick you up after your procedure. IV Sedation and General AnesthesiaDelaware Periodontics is a state-authorized surgical center and we offer IV sedation and general anesthesia with a licensed anesthesiologist. IV (intravenous) sedation and general anesthesia are administered through the vein directly to the bloodstream. This allows medications to take effect more quickly. Because the administration of these types of sedation is a little more serious, we typically reserve them for complex or lengthy procedures like oral surgery. The IV sedation will place you on the edge of consciousness, with little or no recollection of the procedure. General anesthesia places you completely under and usually requires the supervision of an anesthesiologist. Both of these forms require you to arrange a ride with a friend or family member following your appointment.
