With a state-of-the-art facility, Delaware Periodontics is the first and only practice in Delaware to offer Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) for the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease. LANAP is a safe, effective and minimally invasive treatment for periodontal disease that does not require the use of a scalpel or sutures, and is virtually painless. This is an exciting breakthrough for our patients. Dr. Bradford Klassman strives to provide patients with the most comprehensive and technologically advanced periodontal and implant treatment available.
What is Laser Periodontal Therapy?
Laser Periodontal Therapy is a laser based technique for the treatment of periodontal disease using the Millennium Dental Technologies, Inc. Periolase Laser. It is the first and only FDA approved laser gum treatment procedure to treat gum disease. Fear of periodontal surgical treatment vanishes when patients find out no scalpel or sutures will be used.
How does it work?
Tartar (calculus), associated with inflamed and bleeding gums, is removed from the root surface of the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler and small instruments. A small amount of light energy for a laser is directed through a tiny fiber that is gently placed between the gum and tooth. The light energy removes a tiny amount of diseased tissue and aids in reducing the bacteria associated with the disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, the body can heal the area naturally.
Treatment Procedure
- Perio probe indicates excessive pocket depth.
- Laser light removes bacteria and diseased tissue.
- Ultrasonic scaler and special hand instruments are used to remove root surface tarter.
- Laser finishes cleaning pocket and aids in sealing the pocket closed so new germs cannot enter.
- Healing of gums to clean root surface occurs.
- Bite trauma is adjusted.
- Healing occurs.

Laser Periodontal Therapy™ for General & Periodontal Practices
Laser Periodontal Therapy™ is a laser-based approach to gum disease using an Nd:YAG free running pulsed laser requiring specific knowledge and skills drawn from the whole dentistry. To you the patients this means: less pain, less bleeding, less swelling, less tissue removed, less down time, and less recovery time which is decidedly less costly to you and your employer. The reasons we use Laser Periodontal Therapy™ are to: remove only the diseased tissue without removing any of the healthy tissue, maintain the height of the tissue around teeth, minimize pain and discomfort to the patient, get a closure of the periodontal pocket wound and allow healing to take place. Controlling periodontal disease makes it possible to save and restore otherwise hopeless involved teeth.
